AFT Standards 2026

The Army Fitness Test (AFT) is the U.S. Army’s physical fitness test, replacing the ACFT. Here are the complete 2026 AFT standards: the five events, scoring rules, pass requirements for the general and combat standards, age and sex categories, and the new 2026 body-composition rule.

The five AFT events

Every soldier takes the same five events in order, with prescribed rest between them:

  • 3-Repetition Maximum Deadlift (MDL) — heaviest 3-rep lift, scored in pounds
  • Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP) — correct reps in 2 minutes
  • Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC) — 250-meter shuttle, scored by total time
  • Plank (PLK) — maximum time held
  • 2-Mile Run (2MR) — scored by total time

AFT scoring and pass requirements

Each event is scored from 0 to 100 points, for a maximum total of 500. The minimums are absolute:

  • 60 points per event minimum — failing any single event fails the entire test, regardless of your total
  • 300 points total — general standard (most soldiers)
  • 350 points total — combat standard (21 combat arms MOSs)

Scores are normed by ten age groups (17–21 through 62+) and by sex, except under the combat standard, which uses a single sex-neutral scale. Look up any exact threshold on the AFT score chart, or calculate your score from your results.

General vs. combat standard

The general standard applies to most soldiers: 300 total points with 60+ in every event, scored on age- and sex-normed tables. The combat standard applies to soldiers in 21 combat arms MOSs: 350 total points with 60+ in every event, scored on the sex-neutral (male) scale regardless of the soldier’s sex. If the combat standard applies to you, select it in the AFT calculator to be scored correctly.

2026 body-composition standard

In 2026 the Army replaced the old height/weight tables and tape test with a single waist-to-height ratio standard (Army Directive 2026-13). Measure your waist circumference and divide by your height (same units): a ratio under 0.550 passes. The standard is universal — no age or sex bands. Try our Army body-composition calculator to check yours.

Permanent profiles and alternate events

Soldiers on a permanent profile take an alternate aerobic event instead of the 2-mile run: the 2.5-mile walk, 12 km bike, 1 km swim, or 5 km row. Alternate events are scored GO (60 points) or NO-GO (0 points) — there is no sliding scale. The calculator’s profile mode handles this automatically.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum AFT score to pass?

300 total points with at least 60 in every event (general standard), or 350 total with 60+ per event (combat standard for 21 combat arms MOSs).

Did AFT standards change in 2026?

The scoring tables did not change — the current scale was approved 1 May 2025 and took effect 1 June 2025. What changed in 2026: combat-standard enforcement dates arrived, and the body-composition standard switched from tape test to waist-to-height ratio.

How is the AFT different from the ACFT?

The AFT replaced the ACFT as the Army’s fitness test. Key differences include the plank replacing the leg tuck, a 5-event format, and the 2026 body-composition changes. See our full AFT vs. ACFT comparison.

Where can I find the official scoring tables?

In the Army’s “Army Fitness Test Score Tables” (approved 1 May 2025, effective 1 June 2025), reproduced interactively on our AFT score chart page.
